SLOLAF Welcomes New
Executive Director, CPA Donna Jones
San Luis Obispo Legal Assistance Foundation (SLOLAF) is thrilled to welcome Donna Jones as its new Executive Director. Ms. Jones, a Certified Public Accountant who most recently served as the Director of Finance & Administration at The Community Foundation San Luis Obispo County, brings a wealth of experience in finance, business, and non-profit management to SLOLAF. She also has direct experience working with the organization, having contributed countless volunteer hours over the last four years to SLOLAF’s highly successful annual fundraiser. Ms. Jones will assume the position of Executive Director on November 6, 2018.
Ms. Jones joins the SLOLAF team at a time of tremendous growth within the organization. “There is a growing need for the legal services SLOLAF provides and we have responded by hiring a bilingual outreach coordinator, starting a Family Law Advice Clinic, recruiting more volunteer attorneys to serve more clients, and dividing the current Executive Director role into two separate positions,” said outgoing Executive Director Stephanie Barclay, who was hired as Director of Senior Legal Services Project in 2013 and elevated to Executive Director in 2014. Ms. Barclay will step into a new Legal Director position to focus on the development and delivery of SLOLAF’s legal programs, including direct services to SLOLAF’s clients who are frequently poor, homeless, at risk of becoming homeless, frail, ill, or living on an extremely fixed income. As Executive Director, Ms. Jones will focus on the administration of SLOLAF, including staff management, board relations, grant writing and reporting, donor development, and event planning.
“Over the years as a volunteer, I have grown very fond of SLOLAF and its mission to provide free legal aid, assistance in self-representation, and conflict resolution to low and moderate income seniors, veterans, and families,” said Donna Jones. “I have thoroughly enjoyed my previous positions in finance and business administration. Serving as Executive Director of SLOLAF to help the organization grow in a healthy way and in collaboration with an incredibly capable Legal Director, will allow me to further utilize the full range of my skills and passion. What an exciting opportunity!”
“I am grateful to the Personnel & Hiring Committee for facilitating a robust hiring process,” said Erica Flores Baltodano, incoming Board President. “With Executive Director Donna Jones and Legal Director Stephanie Barclay leading the way, our small but mighty staff, and a wonderfully dedicated group of Board Members and volunteer attorneys, San Luis Obispo Legal Assistance Foundation can continue to meet the legal needs of residents in our community who have nowhere else to turn.”
