Leslie Kraut, Deputy County Counsel
Leslie graduated from UCSB in 1984 with a degree in History. She worked in D.C. for a year, then Japan for a year, before starting law school at University of San Diego in 1990. Ms. Kraut graduated from USD in 1993 and then went to work for the District Attorney’s Office in Ventura from 1994-1998, prosecuting misdemeanors, felonies, asset forfeiture cases, domestic violence and juvenile delinquency cases. Ms. Kraut has been with San Luis Obispo County Counsel’s Office since 1998. Her clients have included: Department of Social Services for juvenile dependency matter and writs & appeals, the District Attorney’s Office, the Grand Jury, the Public Guardian, Environmental Health, and Animal Services. She is currently assigned to the Public Guardian, Writs & Appeals from dependency court, Grand Jury, and Environmental Health.
Lisa Niesen, Chief Deputy Public Guardian for San Luis Obispo County
Lisa received her B.A., in Psychology from the University of Nevada Las Vegas in 1987. She then attended Antioch University, Santa Barbara, receiving her M.A. in Clinical Psychology in 1997. Ms. Niesen has been employed with the Office of the Public Guardian since 1988, being promoted to the Chief Deputy Public Guardian in 2000 assigned to the office’s professional administration of those cases that are appointed by the Superior Court in the establishment of L.P.S. and Probate Conservatorships.

Our speakers will discuss the process of establishing an LPS conservatorship and the differences between a probate conservatorship and an LPS conservatorship.
